Come dive with us.
This page is for the adaptive diver — the person who wants to get in the water with us. If you are looking to help as a dive buddy instead, the Volunteer page is the one you want.
The path, in order
- Try it first at a Discover Scuba Experience (DSE). We encourage every prospective adaptive diver to try a DSE before committing to the full course.
- Medical questionnaire. Before anything in the water, complete the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire (linked on this page). If any answer requires physician sign-off, that approval is needed before the DSE.
- Try the DSE, then decide. If they like it, they move forward into training.
- $100 deposit to get started — fully refunded upon completion of certification.
- Online academics. Self-paced eLearning, roughly 8 hours.
- Pool session.
- Two ocean sessions.
- Certified for life. Same lifetime certification as any other diver — the only difference is Grateful Divers Worldwide works out how many dive buddies they’ll need for their sessions.
- Join the WhatsApp community — same group as volunteers — and from there they can help recruit their own buddies.
- Ongoing dives after certification are covered through subsidies from Scuba4Good.
Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire
The form referenced in step 2 above. It includes the Physician’s Evaluation Form, so you can take the whole document to your doctor if sign-off is needed.
