This unique program will take place in the facility’s state-of-the-art therapy pool\, providing a safe\, controlled environment designed specifically for rehabilitation and adaptive movement. \nThis experience offers people living with disabilities the opportunity to explore scuba diving under close supervision by trained adaptive dive professionals. The program is designed to support confidence\, independence\, and engagement beyond traditional clinical care\, complementing the Center’s comprehensive rehabilitation services. \nProgram Impact Includes: \n\n\nExpanding access to adaptive scuba experiences for people living with disabilities \n\n\nSupporting confidence and independence through experiential\, non-clinical engagement \n\n\nStrengthening partnerships between healthcare institutions and adaptive recreation programs \n\n\nGDW works in collaboration with leading medical and rehabilitation providers to deliver meaningful\, high-quality adaptive experiences that align with patient-centered care models. \nPresented by Grateful Divers Worldwide in partnership with Jackson Health System.

DESCRIPTION:Monday\, April 27\, 2026 | 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM (Closing Session)Wyndham Resort at Disney Springs \nThis session is part of the Florida State Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (FSARN) 49th Annual Educational Conference\, themed “Rehab Under the Sea…Diving Deep into Recovery.” The hybrid conference brings together rehabilitation nurses from across the Southeast representing inpatient rehabilitation\, acute care\, post-acute settings\, home health\, veterans services\, education\, insurance\, and case management. \nThis closing session explores adaptive scuba diving as an innovative\, experiential approach that complements traditional rehabilitation by supporting physical engagement\, psychological well-being\, and meaningful community reintegration for individuals living with disability and chronic illness. Emphasis is placed on real-world program models and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between rehabilitation professionals and adaptive dive programs. \nTitle: Adaptive Scuba Diving: An Innovative Approach to Rehabilitation and Recovery \nLearner ObjectivesBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to describe the physiological and psychological mechanisms by which adaptive scuba diving supports rehabilitation and recovery. Participants will be able to identify appropriate candidate populations and key safety considerations for participation in adaptive diving programs. Participants will also recognize how interdisciplinary collaboration between rehabilitation professionals and adaptive dive programs can enhance patient outcomes and community reintegration.

SUMMARY:SDI Scubility Buddy Training
DESCRIPTION:COST: $300 \nThis fee simply covers the basic expenses for the class\, including the boat\, instructor fees\, and SDI registration.  Grateful Divers Worldwide does not profit from this class – we offer it to help cover our costs and make these adaptive dive opportunities possible. \nThe SDI Scubility Dive Buddy Program is designed to develop the knowledge and necessary skills for an individual to effectively perform as a dive buddy for an individual living with a disability. The practical skills developed are the same as for the SDI Scubility Instructor\, making the dive buddy course an important step in the development process. \nWho this course is for:\n\nCertified divers looking to assist divers living with a disability enjoy the underwater world and SDI Instructors wishing to become an SDI Scubility Instructor\n\nCourse prerequisites:\n\n\n\nMinimum age 18\, 16 with parental consent\nProvide proof of:\n\nCurrent CPR and first aid certification\nRescue diver certification\n\n\n\n\n\nOR\n\nAdvanced Diver certification with 40 logged open water dives\n\nWhat’s in it for you?\n\nUpon successful completion of this course\, graduates are able to conduct dives with individuals living with a disability.\nUpon successful completion on this course\, SDI Assistant Instructors are able to functions as a Scubility Assistant\nSDI Open Water Scuba Diving Instructors are eligible to enroll in the upgrade course to become a Scubility Instructor\n\nSDI Scubility Dive Buddy minimum requirements:\n\nComplete all open water requirements efficiently\nDemonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution\n\nYour typical class looks like \n\n3 hour classroom session Friday night going over academics and land clinics\nPool or Lake Saturday morning to accomplished confined water skills\nBoat Sunday morning or afternoon to accomplish open water skills\n\nSessions can be split up over multiple weekends—you don’t have to complete the entire class in one weekend. \nThis is subject to change depending on students and instructors’ availability. \nCost for the class is $300 and covers academics\, pool or lake\, boat fees\, SDI registration\, and Instructor fees. \nFee must be paid to secure your spot in the class.  Instructors need to reserve the pool\, lake\, and boat well in advance to ensure smooth logistics. \nSee below for required medical form to be completed by students. \nSDI_Forms_16_Medical_Questionnaire.pdf \n\n \n\n\n  \n

Stop by to meet the team\, learn more about adaptive scuba programs\, upcoming events\, and ways to get involved. Festival attendees are encouraged to support the mission through donations\, merchandise purchases\, and raffle ticket sales. \nHeld at the beautiful beachfront El Prado Park\, the Atlantic Ocean provides the backdrop for a full weekend of live music.
